At present, the new generation of road lighting system competition is in full swing. Warm white light has become the "leader" for its remarkable advantages in improving the overall lighting environment and energy saving and environmental protection.
In recent years, Philips, the founder of warm white road lighting technology, has carried out a comprehensive test of pedestrian preference, identification and response time of motor vehicle drivers in the areas where warm white road lighting is installed. The test results show that the technology and products of large-scale application of warm and white illumination system have matured and will usher in a "golden development period" all over the world, including China.
Pedestrians prefer warm white light
Pedestrian perception is an important reference for product development direction of road lighting research and development institutions. In 2006, Philips Public Lighting Center in Lyon, France, conducted field tests on new road lighting systems such as warm white light, ceramic metal halide lamps and traditional road lighting systems. The test was conducted in INSA Park and the sixth residential area of Lyon City. The main subjects of the test were students and local residents.
The results showed that most of the test subjects preferred warm white light system and ceramic metal halide lamp to sodium lamp, while among all lighting schemes, fluorescent lamp and mercury-free sodium lamp were the least favored. The difference is that white light has better visibility than yellow light. Warm white light road system is close to natural sunshine in light-color reductivity and has no dispersive phenomenon, so it is easy to be felt by visual nerve. After installing a warm white road lighting system in the eastern London town of Redbridge, the parked vehicles and pedestrians in the community are more clearly visible, and the people's sense of security has been improved in broad daylight. At the same time, due to the reduction of 20% of the use of lamps and lanterns, lighting power consumption has also decreased significantly.
Not long ago, Antwerp, Belgium, installed a warm white illumination system on a tree-lined Avenue on the East Bank of the Schelde River in the city. However, the previously installed metal halide lamp and traditional inductive ballast systems have problems in calorific value and service life. Finally, the competent authorities decided to replace the Philips warm and white lighting system. The results show that the system is not only nearly 30% more efficient than the metal halide lamp in use, but also has a service life (12,000 hours) that the metal halide lamp can not expect.
Driver's Safety Barrier
Street lights are of more unusual significance to drivers. The quality of road lighting system directly affects the response speed of acceleration and deceleration of drivers in emergencies.
In a test conducted at the New York Lighting Research Center, yellow and warm white road lighting performed in actual driving tests as follows:
Warm white road lighting system compared with yellow light lighting:
1. The reaction time of braking and acceleration is obviously increased.
2. The braking time is shorter than the speed-up time.
3. The target miss rate is decreasing.
Therefore, the warm white road lighting system is an important barrier to driver's traffic safety.
Comfort, energy saving and safety lay a solid foundation for the next "revolution" of warm white light in road lighting worldwide.
